Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the child of British parents Jacqueline Luesby, a lawyer and Chris Watson, a teacher from Paris, France. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five years old and went to the Dragon School. At the age of six years old, Emma was aware that she would like to become an actress and, for a period of years, she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre academy where she learned to sing, dance and acting. The stagecoach was her main performer and had taken the lead role in several Stagecoach productions. In 1999 the casting process began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001), the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents came across Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were cast as Hermione Granger as well as Harry Potter. Emma's debut screen performance in cinema was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The film broke records in opening-day and weekend sales and was the top-grossing movie of 2001. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of three leading young actors. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph described her performance as "admirable". Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as Leading Young Actress in the Film Film and was nominated for a further five prizes. After the debut film of the highly successful franchise, Emma became one of the most famous actresses in the world. Hermione Granger remained her character for more than ten years in the Harry Potter films. Emma acquired two Critics' Choice Award nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association for her work in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
